Valley View Ave. Interchange Project – April 9, 2021 – April 16, 2021

Construction on this project is 78% complete.

Projected dates:
The first half of Valley View Ave. Bridge opened to traffic on Monday, October 7, 2019 with one lane in each direction. A second lane opened to traffic on the southbound side of the Valley View Avenue Bridge on Friday, September 18, 2020. 

Completion of second half of Valley View Ave. Bridge: Revised to *mid-2022.
The new Valley View Ave. off ramp from southbound I-5 opened on September 19, 2020.  
N. Firestone Blvd. reverts to two lanes in each direction east of Valley View Ave.: End of 2021. 
N. Firestone Blvd. re-opened between Knott Ave. and Trojan Way on February 28, 2021.  
New S. Firestone Blvd. running under the Valley View Ave. Bridge opened on July 13, 2020. 
New S. Firestone connector ramp to the Valley View Ave. Bridge opened on February 28. 2021. 
I-5 Valley View Ave. Interchange projected date of completion: Revised to *mid-2022.

Scheduled to be closed to complete the striping operation:

The nights of Sunday, Apr. 11 & Monday, Apr. 12:

  • Northbound & southbound I-5 all lanes closed from Artesia Boulevard to Carmenita Road from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Westbound State Route 91 connector to northbound I-5 closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Southbound I-605 (San Gabriel River Freeway) connector to southbound I-5 closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Lanes will re-open each morning.  

Alternate route: Use southbound I-5 to southbound I-605 (San Gabriel River Freeway) to eastbound State Route 91 (Artesia Freeway) back to I-5 and the reverse route for northbound traffic.

Detour: Northbound I-5 traffic will be detoured to westbound Artesia Boulevard to northbound Carmenita Road to rejoin I-5. Reverse detour for southbound I-5 traffic.

Crews have been removing lumber forms from the vertical stem walls and placing them across the deck of the middle section of the second half of the new bridge as a base for a second layer (mat) of rebar. These forms are used a second time. Aerial photos below:

Workers secured lumber forms over rebar stem walls and placed a rebar mat across the deck of the bridge before the concrete pour.  Photos and video below:
