I-5 Construction Advisory – SR-134 to Buena Vista Street, Sept. 23-30, 2016

PROVIDENCIA BRIDGE WORK: Through October, crews will be erecting and bolting girders to the Providencia Avenue bridge in Burbank. The work will require night closures of Flower Street and lane closures on I-5. Click here for more information.

BURBANK WESTERN CHANNEL CAP:  Through mid-October 2016, crews will continue work on the Burbank Western Channel cap project. Please use caution and slow down when driving in the area. Click here for more information.

Construction activities and closures listed below are subject to change. Work will occur during daytime hours unless otherwise noted.

Illegal dumping is a crime. Violators will be prosecuted. If you notice illegal dumping at a construction site, get the license plate number and call 911.

SR-134 to Magnolia Boulevard

Providencia Avenue Bridge: Erect and install girders (night work) on the southbound side of the bridge. Install falsework (wooden forms) for deck construction. More information is here.

Los Angeles River Bridge: Removal of temporary supports (night work).

I-5: Install concrete barriers between Providencia Avenue and SR-134 (night work).

Magnolia Boulevard to Buena Vista Street

Empire I-5 Undercrossing: Form and pour abutment walls.

Buena Vista Street Bridge (Winona Bridge): Form center span. Strip falsework.

Buena Vista Railroad Underpass: Waterproof steel deck.  Form, pour and strip backwalls.  Construct approaches (bridge ends).

Empire Avenue Railroad Underpass: Erect steel bridge.

Empire Avenue: Backfill retaining walls.

Hollywood Way to Buena Vista Street: Place railroad ballast (rock). Form, pour and strip retaining wall coping (place cap piece on the wall).

Victory Place Undercrossing: Strip falsework.

Victory Place: Remove pavement. Install shoring.

Burbank Western Channel: Place deck panels and form abutment. Click here for more information.

Soundwalls: Remove existing block soundwalls between Empire Avenue and Cohasset Street.

Old Front Street: Excavate and break out retaining wall.

Pump Building: Mechanical work. Install drain for vault floor.

SR-134 to Magnolia Boulevard 

+ Flower Street closed between Alameda Avenue and Verdugo Avenue the nights of Sept. 28 and 29 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Detour posted. More information is here.

+ Providencia Avenue closed between Flower Street and Varney Street the nights of Sept. 28 and 29 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Detour posted. More information is here.

+ Two lanes closed on northbound and southbound I-5 between SR-134 and Providencia Avenue the night of Sept. 25 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

+ Two lanes closed on southbound I-5 between Providencia Avenue and SR-134 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

+ Southbound I-5 Alameda Avenue off-ramp closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

+ Southbound I-5 Verdugo Avenue on-ramp closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sept. 23-30.

+ Through mid-2017 there will be intermittent daytime bike path closures between Riverside Drive and just south of the SR-134 overcrossing in the City of Los Angeles. When the path is closed, a signed detour will direct users to Zoo Drive and Western Heritage Way. See map here.

Magnolia Boulevard to Buena Vista Street 

+ Intermittent nighttime lane closures on southbound I-5 between Hollywood Way and Burbank Boulevard.

Intermittent nighttime ramp closures at southbound Buena Vista Street off-ramp and southbound Burbank Boulevard off-ramp.

+ Buena Vista Street closures between Winona Avenue and San Fernando Boulevard:

  • Night closure: Full closure on Sept. 22 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Day closures: Intermittent lane closures in both directions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The street will remain open to motorists.

+ Full closure of Empire Avenue between Wilson Avenue and Victory Place through November 2016. Work hours will be from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., primarily Monday through Friday. The closure will remain in place 24/7. A detour will be posted. Click here for more information.
