Due to the extensive rains of this past winter, there were delays in completion of the current phase of construction. Current construction hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
Over the summer, the contractor excavated up to four feet and lowered lanes in the median of I-5. Workers are currently pouring lean concrete base for the new freeway lanes. Construction of falsework (temporary frame support) for the second half of the bridge started west of I-5. The target date to begin construction of the second half of the bridge is now Autumn of 2019.
Scheduled to be closed:
Southbound I-5 approaching I-605 the two right lanes are scheduled to be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. each separate night from the night of Sunday, Sep. 22 through the night of Thursday, Sep. 26. To repair a sound wall. The lanes will re-open each morning.
The contractor continues pouring lean concrete base and final concrete layers for the new lanes in the median of I-5 north and south of the Florence Ave. Bridge. Video below from September 10:

The contractor is constructing “falsework” (temporary frame support) for the second half of the Florence Ave. Bridge, just north of the existing bridge and west of I-5. Video below:
The Florence Ave. on ramp to northbound I-5, and the Florence Ave. off ramp from northbound I-5 will all remain closed until the second half of the Florence Ave. Bridge is complete. This is per request by the cities of Downey and Santa Fe Springs, to minimize traffic congestion until the three additional bridge lanes are provided to handle the increase in vehicles. Construction of the second half of the bridge is projected to begin by autumn.
