Next week crews are will continue nighttime work to excavate soil for the Florence Avenue bridge footings and to drill CIDH (cast in drilled hole) piles. This work will include nighttime full freeway closures on southbound I-5 between I-605, and Norwalk Boulevard. Please note, excavation and CIDH work is not expected to be exceedingly noisy, but will include noise from construction equipment and back-up alarms.
The following closures are scheduled nightly, Sunday night, Jan. 21 through Thursday night, Jan. 25:
- Southbound I-5 closed between I-605 and Norwalk Boulevard, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. DETOUR: Southbound I-5 traffic will be directed onto southbound I-605, exit at Firestone Boulevard, east on Firestone Boulevard, east on Imperial Highway, south on southbound Frontage Road to the southbound I-5 on-ramp.
- Northbound I-605 Connector to Southbound I-5 closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. DETOUR: Motorists will exit northbound I-605 at Imperial Highway off-ramp, east on Imperial Highway, south on SB Frontage Road to access the southbound I-5 on-ramp.
- Southbound I-605 Connector to Southbound I-5 closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. DETOUR: Motorists will continue on southbound I-605, exit Firestone Boulevard off-ramp, east on Firestone Boulevard, east on Imperial Highway, south on SB Frontage Road to access southbound I-5 on-ramp.
The intersection of Orr and Day Road, from Longworth Avenue to Florence Avenue, will reopen by 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23. On Monday night, Jan. 22, crews will be paving Orr and Day Road at Florence Avenue, in preparation to reopen this intersection (north of Florence Avenue). To complete this work, crews will close the outside (#2) lane on westbound Florence Avenue from 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, in order to restripe the street in preparation of the opening of the intersection at Orr and Day Road by 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. Here are some recent photos of the progress crews have made, building up the intersection of Orr and Day Road to meet the new height of Florence Avenue.
Pile driving activity for the retaining wall adjacent to the northbound I-5 Florence Avenue on-ramp is ongoing and crews will soon begin pile driving along southbound I-5 north of Florence Avenue, for the new Florence Avenue bridge abutments. Please be advised this work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, vibration and pounding related to pile driving activity, and construction lighting (if equipment needs to be moved at nighttime). Pile driving activity will be ongoing for approximately twelve weeks and will take place weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
