Beginning Saturday, April 25, 2020, at 2:00 p.m., Interstate 5 through Glendale, Burbank, and the Sun Valley area of Los Angeles will be closed to all through traffic. Ramps and freeway connectors in the area will begin closing at 10:00 a.m. on April 25.

The freeway closure will end at 2 a.m. Monday, April 27, and ramps and freeway connectors will open by 6 a.m.

All northbound lanes of I-5 will be closed to traffic at State Route 134 (Ventura Freeway) and all southbound lanes of I-5 will closed to traffic at State Route 170 (Hollywood Freeway)

Drivers are strongly advised to use other freeway routes to avoid traveling on I-5 in the Burbank-Los Angeles area. Alternative routes are highlighted below. All information is available at the project website www.My5LA.com including northbound and southbound enlarged maps for alternative routes.

These closures are part of the construction of I-5 improvements in Burbank, including carpool lanes on I-5; the new Empire Interchange; elevated railroad tracks to eliminate a street-level rail crossing on Buena Vista Street at San Fernando Boulevard; reconstruction of the Burbank Boulevard bridge; realignment of freeway lanes and ramps; and replacement of concrete pavement in both directions of I-5. The project’s expected completion date is in 2021.
